Last days for dinosaurs at zoo
Last few days!!!!! Brevard Zoo has held it's annual dinosaur exhibit, Dinosaurs: Dead or
Alive, at the zoo from Feb. 18 to May 28. Visitors can see 16 prehistoric beasts who actually move, make noise and even spit water. The exhibit is $2 in addition to the regular zoo admission BUT smart people will take advantage of the opportunity to do it all on Sunday. All the ice cream you can eat for $5 at the Ice Cream Social - check. Visit the dinosaurs for $2 - check. And if you really want to have a stellar day - include Treetop Trek! Now that's a full day!
And so it begins
The annual weather frenzy has begun. Environmentalists wish for little erosion. Surfers wish for big waves. Insurance companies wish for a bye so they can continue to horde our money. Home Depot & Lowe's get their generators out of the back room. Wal-Mart builds walls of batteries and makes sure they are right at the entrance. The lucky people that live on the beach cross their fingers. Welcome to hurricane season. Great article with handy resources can be found here.

Support local creators
This week-end, May 19&20, Cocoa Village will host a craft fair. This is a chance to double-support the local economy. The Village could use the business and local artists - some of whom are using their hobbies as a way to make money after being laid off by NASA - can sure use the money. This is the time to find unique things that you just can't get elsewhere. What a joy it is to open the Christmas closet in November and see stuff you already got in advance! Make it happen! And help your fellow Space Coast person!
Pre-dawn fireworks Tuesday morning
Elon Musk, founder of Pay Pal, stands by his 'baby' - Space-X and Falcon 9. Must be nice to be able to say you helped change the course of history! Good for him!
A private spacecraft is ready to launch on a historic first visit to the International Space Station next Tuesday. The unmanned Dragon space capsule, built by commercial firm SpaceX, is slated to lift off atop the company's Falcon 9 rocket at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. The spacecraft has an instantaneous launch window at too early a.m.! If all goes well, Dragon will fly by the space station on Thursday and then rendezvous and berth at the outpost the day after, becoming the first non-governmental vehicle to do so. Funding is courtesy of the founder of PayPal, Elon Musk!

Power week-end
Rarely does one week-end have as many things going on as this one does!! Think about it:
1) Relay for Life Cancer annual fund-raising event in Viera - draws thousands of participants. Sat. a.m.
2) Year number 138 for this race that will not only draw a hundred thousand people to Louisville but also draw millions to their TV sets and iphones at racetime. Sat p.m.
3) Melbourne Beach Founder's Day - Hundreds of volunteers and local businesses make this the huge event that it is - for a small town. There is something for everyone - literally everyone is involved somewhere. And the Sand on the Beach is hosting a Cinco de Mayo/Full Moon bash that started at 11 a.m.!
4) Runaway Country Music Festival - who knows how many people are there! If traffic is any indication I wouldn't wait till the last minute to find the restroom - especially if you are buying from one of the many Bud concessions that are already into their third truckload of brew. And it's early Saturday! Whew!
5)Combination antique car show and Cinco de Mayo Experience in downtown Titusville!
6) Palm Bay Waterfest - anything and everything to do with water. Rides, safety instructions, swimming, and even live water-inhabitants from FL Fish & Wildlife - no petting, tho...
7) Roller Derby at Palm Bay Community Center - 6:30pm.
8) And finally - 7:49 pm tonight! Be there! Bring a blanket, camera and S.O. And hope it's not cloudy like last night! Absolutely amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today in history
Everyone knows it's Cinco de Mayo - especially on a week-end, there are always things going on, usually involving Mexican beer and Tequila. But also, on this day in history:
1961 - Alan Shepard: first American in space.
1930 - Amy Johnson first woman ever to fly solo (from England to Australia).
1904 - Boston Red Sox pitcher Cy Young throws first perfect game of modern era!
1891 - Carnegie Hall in Midtown Manhattan opens its doors for the first time.
How does all that compare with a good Margarita? Thought-provoking, but not as much fun.

Fullest moon!
Since my pictures taken at last year's "biggest moon" event were questionable, I'll borrow someone elses! This is the moon rising on March 19, 2011 next to the Lincoln Memorial.
The biggest full moon of 2012, a so-called "super moon," will take
center stage when it rises this weekend, and may interfere with the peak
of an annual meteor shower created by the leftovers from Halley's
comet.
The supermoon of 2012
is the biggest full moon of the year and will occur on Saturday (May 5)
at 11:35 p.m. , though the moon may still appear full to
sky watchers on the day before and after the actual event. Grab someone and head to the beach for moonrise Saturday night!

Runaway Country - Ye Ha!
For one week-end in May, Wickham Park will be more like a metropolis than a park. The Runaway Country Music Festival will be in town and 40,000 - 50,000 people are expected to be attend the event this coming weekend. Many will be coming from out of the area, and hundreds will be camping right in Wickham Park. In fact, so far over 30 states and several foreign countries are represented on the current list of ticket buyers.
For those who are country music fans and have tickets - heavenly. For the rest of us - avoid traffic areas around the park and be grateful for the tourist dollars pouring in! Tickets may still be available - read on. And Alan Jackson will be performing Sunday!
