There are 3 beach clean-ups scheduled for this week-end:
Saturday: Pelican Beach, Satellite Beach with Judy de la Rosa, 8-10 a.m.
Sunday: Boardwalk (5th Ave) Indialantic 8 a.m. - noon
Sunday: Hightower Beach, Satellite Beach with Frank Skiff, 9 a.m. - noon

Bring your own bags, gloves, water & sunscreen!

Beach clean-ups this week-end

There are 2 beach clean-ups this Sunday. Both are in Satellite Beach but don't let that stop you from having your own clean-up wherever you are. The two in Satellite Beach are 8-12 at Seagull Park and 9-12 at Hightower Beach. Bring your out-of-town guests - it will probably be an educational experience for them and we can always use the extra hands. Sandy sure has taken a toll on the dunes in this area - see the exposed root system in this photo from yesterday.

Post Sandy Beach Clean-up

Tomorrow morning's beach clean-up - and it sure does need it!!! - will be at Hightower Beach in Satellite Beach. From what I have seen, thanks to Hurricane Sandy, what little is left of the beach is filled with CRAP! So any beach will do - grab a bag and go to work.

This weekend's beach clean-ups are both Sunday - Sept 23. They are:
1) Seagull Park in Satellite Beach from 8-noon
2) Hightower Beach in Satellite Beach from 9-noon

Beach clean-ups Sunday Aug 5

Two clean-ups scheduled this week-end: Hightower Beach in Satellite Beach and Spessard Holland in Melbourne Beach. 

Hightower is a regular Sunday event run by Frank Skiff. You need to bring your own bags, gloves if you use them, water, and sunscreen. Time: 8 - 10 a.m.

Spessard Holland is 8-noon and is sponsored by Keep Brevard Beautiful. Bags are supplied and you only need to bring your own water and sunscreen.

BYOW - Bring your own water!! Materials for cleanup activities are provided, including trash bags, gloves, sunscreen and tools!! The turtles and other sea life thank you!!!

Sea Turtle Preservation Society will have a beach clean-up Saturday morning from 8 - 10 a.m. Turtles coming ashore to lay eggs are cumbersome and have a tough job as it is - having to crawl over plastic bottles and junk just makes it more difficult for them. Baby hatchlings also need a clear path to get to the water. Come help their keep our adopted beach clean! Beach clean-ups are perfect family activities and also a great way to earn community service hours. Location: Coconut Park, Melbourne Beach.

Fido Beach Clean-up!

Join us for the third monthly beach clean-up event. We'll meet near the South crossover (on the right when facing the beach). Bring your dog, of course!

Look for Nichole and Marcos, the leaders for this event who will sign you in and provide your supplies on behalf of Keep Brevard Beautiful.

This Sunday's beach clean-up event - thank you to Keep Brevard Beautiful - will be at Pelican Beach, Indian Harbor Beach (between 192 & Eau Gallie Cswy). Time is 8-12 and bring sunscreen. This is a hugely popular beach so you should be able to work off thousands of calories and tone those muscles! Please help - gobs of new baby turtles are depending on you!

Gulf Oil fines drifting off to Washington?

The BP disaster released millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf, causing devastating impacts to the region’s beaches, coastal marshes, barrier islands, and wildlife. Yet, unless Congress takes action, fines issued through the Clean Water Act will be used for unrelated federal spending instead of urgently needed environmental restoration.

Restoring the Gulf will provide major benefits to the natural environment, and will also help protect the region’s economy including tourism, recreation, and commercial fishing.

Please TAKE ACTION to support this bipartisan bill and ensure that penalties from the BP disaster are dedicated to restoring the Gulf of Mexico ecosystem!

1) Fellsmere Frog Leg Festival
There is of course the Frog Leg and Gator Tail Dinners. There is also a variety of food available from Sausage and Peppers to Candy Apples. There are also Midway Rides for the young as well as the more adventurous and plenty of games. There is a full schedule of entertainment on stage including Great Bands, and More. 2) 2012 Silver Chest Antiques Show at the Melbourne Auditorium. Fri-Sun Come buy/sell/or just browse. Bring your broken crystal for repairs, too!
3) 1st Annual Florida Key Lime Pie Festival!! Jan 21 (Sat 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.)
The event will feature Florida’s State Chef and Culinary Ambassador, along with an array of some of the state’s most savored and well respected restaurants. Each of which will be showcasing dishes reflecting their Chef’s unique culinary flare, utilizing an infusion and presentation of Florida’s infamous citrus favorite the “Key Lime”.

4)'Storm Riders - A Surf Film' at the Cocoa Beach Library - Sat Jan 21 from 7-9 p.m. : Viewers will experience the excitement, the terror, the sheer force of the ocean as Storm Riders travel to five continents to discover the exotic jungles of Hawaii, Sumatra, Java and Bali; brave the treacherous coastline of Africa and the blistering desert outback of the Great Australian Bight in the greatest ocean adventure ever filmed. Featured surfers are Mark Richards, Wayne Lynch, Rabbit Bartholomew, Gerry Lopez, Simon Anderson, Shaun Tomson, Joe Engle, Thornton Fallander, Peter McCabe and Tom Carroll. 5) 22nd Annual Indialantic Art Festival - Sat & Sun at Nance Park 4 Wavecrest Ave Indialantic, FL 32903. Time:
10 a.m. - 5 p.m. The quaint, oceanfront town of Indialantic is the backdrop for this Annual Art Festival held along the Atlantic Ocean off A1A. More than 100 of the nation’s finest artists, blending a perfect balance of well-known favorites and the latest names in the contemporary art scene, will converge on Nance Park for two memorable days. 6) Beach Clean-up at Seagull Park, Satellite Beach - 8 a.m. - noon. 80 degrees and sunny! Ya-hoo!!

The winds of tropical/or not tropical Sean have lashed the beaches and brought in masses of junk. I personally collected 12 empty liquor/wine bottles on one walk - not my favorite kind of case of good cheer. Tomorrow morning, Paradise Beach in Indialantic will hold a clean-up from 8-12. This beautiful weather is just perfect for a stroll on the beach, anyway, so please come help!
