Willie, the legend

This show should be great. Willie Nelson is a legend and not just because he laughs in the face of those who tell him he can't smoke what he is known for smoking. Willie is a hero. He is the ultimate example of living life on his own terms. Is his voice anything special? No. Is he physically attractive. No. Does he have more guts than anyone you know? Probably. He has been performing for 60 years and he isn't getting any younger. Go see him while you can. For a small guy, he sure can cause a big ruckus! Friday Feb 8 at King Center.

 Life is Good Music Festival in Canton (Boston), MA....Sept 23....Music all week-end but the best was Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds. 2 and 1/2 hours of acoustic guitar. Gotta start a petition and beg them to come here. Anyone interested???? Hint- they usually do fundraisers for charity and green events!

Runaway Country - Ye Ha!

For one week-end in May, Wickham Park will be more like a metropolis than a park. The Runaway Country Music Festival will be in town and 40,000 - 50,000 people are expected to be attend the event this coming weekend. Many will be coming from out of the area, and hundreds will be camping right in Wickham Park. In fact, so far over 30 states and several foreign countries are represented on the current list of ticket buyers.

 For those who are country music fans and have tickets - heavenly. For the rest of us - avoid traffic areas around the park and be grateful for the tourist dollars pouring in! Tickets may still be available - read on. And Alan Jackson will be performing Sunday!

2012 Runaway Country Music Fest tickets

For those who watched the Country Music show on TV last night, you are probably wondering if there will be another Runaway Country Music Festival next year.....well, the answer is yes! And you can buy early bird tickets now - unless, of course, you'd prefer to see who will be performing. The date is May 4-6 and yes, tickets are on sale. The location will again be Wickham Park but the set-up will be a little different. The same person is organizing the event and he promises to reveal exactly who will be performing 'late this summer' - whenever that is!

Boomers delight

HAPPY TOGETHER TOUR 2011 is coming to the King Center on Wednesday, July 20! It stars The Turtles featuring Flo & Eddie, The Association, The Grass Roots, The Buckinghams and the former lead singer of Paul Revere and the Raiders, Mark Lindsay will be a chance for Space Coast baby-boomers to step back in time and enjoy some of the music they rocked to back in the day. There are still seats left - a few on the lower tier and more on the upper tier.

Satellite Beach's Got Talent

Satellite Beach resident, Kevin Kornicki, aka “Squonk Opera Drummer” and his band are among the top 48 finalists in this season of America’s Got Talent. Kevin is the globally renowned group’s assistant musical director and percussionist. His realm of drumming expertise ranges from traditional drumkit, to electronica and world percussion. Squonk Opera is based in Pittsburgh, Pa. and its five members perform original music mixed with performance and props. Although Kevin tours extensively with Squonk, and at one time performed a stint on and off-Broadway, he can be seen performing throughout local venues with Flamenco trio, Don Soledad Group. Kevin’s live performance with Squonk Opera will air Tuesday, July 12 on the NBC realty show from 9 p.m. – 11 p.m. EST. Afterward the public will have the chance to vote. On July 13 the group will appear back on the show to find out their fate. Hotel California

The King Center Classic Albums Live Series for 2011 begins Friday night and what a way to start! The music troupe will present the album Hotel California by the Eagles. This musical group, originally from Canada, is a treat. As a long-time concert attendee and music-lover, this writer can safely say that these people know their instruments and do an outstanding job. For a glimpse of their work, you are invited to view our articles about the following two shows seen locally: Led Zeppelin and Woodstock and Woodstock 40th anniversary. Jazzy Astronaut

Winston Scott, USN-Retired, former NASA astronaut, and currently Dean of the College of Aeronautics at FIT, will show off his trumpeting 'chops' Friday night at the Brevard Art Museum on Highland Avenue. Mr. Scott will be joined by some friends as they perform some jazz favorites. Mr Scott is a very friendly guy and actually has a music degree! 5:30 - 7:30p.m. Enjoy!

Whiffen-who?

THE WHIFFENPOOFS VISIT THE ZOO
This Saturday, April 23,  at 1:00 p.m. Brevard Zoo will host The Whiffenpoofs for a special sneak preview performance. Every year, 14 senior Yale men are selected to join the Whiffenpoofs, the world’s oldest and best-known collegiate a cappella group. Recently featured on NBC’s The Sing-Off, the “Whiffs” began as a senior quartet that met for weekly concerts at Mory’s Temple Bar, the famous Yale tavern. Following their show at the zoo, The Whiffenpoofs will then perform live at the King Center for the Performing Arts at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday evening. Cute, fun and talented - does it get any better than that?

When the show was planned, and performers signed, it was 2 years ago. A lot has happened to the performers, namely Miranda Lambert, since then.
