Shop For a Cause tomorrow!!!!

Suntree, Rockledge and Viera Jazzercisers are planning a big fundraiser tomorrow to raise money for cancer research and to provide assistance to those undergoing treatment locally. Several of the ladies in the group are survivors, or sisters, mothers, daughters, or friends of survivors. Many have known women who have lost their battle or are in the midst of the fight. In fact, the team is named after one Jazzerciser who tragically lost her battle with cancer. They call themselves Team Amazing Grace - because she really was.

Macy's Shop for a Cause
The team is selling Macy's Shop For a Cause passes that, with a few exceptions, entitle the pass holder to 25% off purchases made at any Macy's store on August 25 (10% on purchases of electronics, watches, furniture and mattresses). Pass-holders will also have a chance to win a $500 Macy's gift card. The passes are $5 each and can be purchased from team members on August 25 at the mall entrance to the Melbourne Square Macy's from 12 - 2 p.m. The team members will be recognizable by their pink attire, which will probably include their signature, bedazzled pink bras. Read about more upcoming fund-raisers here!

World Champs to be honored

This Sunday, August 26, the City of Rockledge will honor it's own recently-crowned World Champion Little League Junior All-Star baseball team. There will be a parade, which will begin at 5 p.m. , followed by a reception. Come see these kids that pulled off a 50-0 season record! Details here.

Freedom of Speech violation

The movie 2016 is out but not being advertised, announced, or promoted. I remember when Michael Moore made a movie slamming Bush - and that was advertised. What is wrong with this picture? 2016 Trailer link: It doesn't matter what party you are affiliated with - it's called freedom of speech and this is just a longer commercial. If we were bombarded with commercials during the Olympics - why is this movie not getting the same exposure?
CBS News:
" To watch this movie and realize – or simply be reminded of – all that is unknown about President Obama is of concern. Much of the information has been ignored by the American media totally. When appropriately reminded as to what is still unknown about Obama to date, one has to ask: How can any logical-thinking person give a damn about Romney’s taxes while not asking any questions regarding our current president’s past?
The man influences the entire globe, but liberal Americans want to know how much Mitt Romney paid in taxes in the past rather than learn about the man who they have entrusted with the country. Unbelievable. "

No-tax week-end!!!!!

This is IT, folks. NOT paying sales tax brings a smile to my face. I pay rent, care-and-maintenance on the parking lot and sales tax on the care-and-maintenance because it is a service. Enough already!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This week-end, Aug 3-5 is Florida's annual tax-free week-end!!! Stores are fighting for your business and have prices to prove it! Last year, I scored spiral notebooks for 8 cents each - tax-free, of course!!

Keep in mind the spending thresholds, too. Tax-exemptions only apply to clothing items less than $75. Thus, a $76 jacket is taxed, but two $70 jackets are both tax free! There’s also no limit to how many tax free items you can buy so, in essence, you could buy 10 million $70 jackets and they’d all be tax-free!!!!!!!!!

A couple of items on the Florida tax-free weekend list aren’t really related to Back-to-School. Since you won’t be taxed on them this weekend, it’s a great time to buy some of these items in addition to all those school clothes, shoes, pens, and paper:
  • Diapers: If you’ve got a baby or even an adult in diapers, you know that those things are expensive and that the best brands are seldom on sale. But diapers are tax free from August 3-5, so you’ve got a built in savings of 6-7% on items that you just can’t do without. Other baby care items are tax-free, too, including receiving blankets and baby clothes. (Strangely, though, crib blankets are taxed.)
  • Costumes: It may feel a little early, but Halloween is creeping up on us quickly. And since costumes are tax-exempt, it might be a good time to invest in your kid’s Halloween costume. Careful, though – children are finicky and what they’re in love with this summer could totally change once they pow-wow with classmates and friends.
  • Sports Uniforms: As mentioned above, the rules for taxing on sport equipment are kind of complicated. Remember, pads, helmets, and balls aren’t exempt. But uniforms are exempt, so if you’re in charge of a sports team or your child takes dance classes, it’s a great chance to score some discounts on uniforms.
  • Employee uniforms: Scrubs, maintenance jumpsuits, and other work clothes and uniforms are exempt from August 3-5.
The rules are a little confusing. For example:
Tax-Free Taxed
Baseball Cleats Baseball Gloves
Fishing Vests Fishing Boots (waders)
Gardening Gloves Surgical Gloves
Jewelry (Necklaces, Earrings Accessories (Ties, Barettes, etc)
Safety Goggles Prescription Goggles
Swimsuits Swim Masks and Goggles
Wallets, purses, and handbags Briefcases and luggage
Binders, Rulers, and Poster Board Staplers and Computer Paper
