Special Olympics surfing

Todd Holland may have cleaned house at the Slater Bros Tournament this week-end but a little further South something else, at least equally as important as skin cancer research fund-raising - another surf event was happening. Those who witnessed it couldn't possibly have been the same people after as when they arrived. As seen in the photo above, the look of joy on the faces of those special surfers was heart-rendering. The inaugeral Florida regional Special Olympics surfing event attracted 25 participants from the Space Coast, Stuart, and Jacksonville. Special Olympics coordinators hope to increase that number. Locally, the program is under the direction of Craig Carroll at the Ron Jon Surf School. Looking for something that will give your week-end meaning? Volunteer with them.
