Beach gophers

I have probably walked a thousand miles of beach in my lifetime, and I
have never come across this before. There was no beginning, and there
was no end. All I could think of was the movie Caddyshack - is there
such a thing as beach gophers? The sand was raised and about 6' wide.
The tire tracks are from a dune buggy used by Beach Patrol, so compare
that for size. Below is a close-up. Note it is a different one. See the
starting point? No entrance. Or is it the end? Then, no exit either.
Ok, so it's not a crab....any guesses?
